With roots in Indigenous traditions, Caipora is a protector of the forest and its animals. The character takes different forms across Brazil—sometimes female, sometimes male—and is known for confusing hunters, hiding their paths, and punishing those who hunt more than they need.

More than a mysterious forest spirit, Caipora carries an idea that has survived through generations of storytelling: the forest has its own rules, and humans must respect its animals, resources, and balance.
