Naiá is the young Indigenous woman at the heart of one of the best-known legends associated with the Brazilian Amazon. Fascinated by Jaci, the Moon, Naiá dreams of joining her among the stars. One night, she sees the Moon reflected on the water and, trying to reach her, disappears beneath the surface.
Moved by Naiá’s devotion, Jaci transforms her into a different kind of star: the Vitória-Régia, the giant Amazonian water lily—a star of the waters.
